
There are eight public use computers and a dedicated printer funded by a grant from the Gates Foundation. These computers are not part of the computer lab and are for library patron use. These computers too can be used to access the Internet as well as take advantage of various Microsoft Office products.
As with the computer lab, patrons with valid library cards from any of the libraries in the district (i.e. Westmoreland & Fayette Counties), may use the these computers during normal library operating hours.1
Technology protection measures including Internet filtering software and other technologies have been installed on library computers, and the library will enforce the operation of same during any use of those computers, to prevent minors from accessing visual depictions that are (1) obscene, (2) child pornography, or (3) harmful to minors. Technology protection measures may be disabled by a library staff member, as necessary, for bona fide research or other lawful purposes by people aged 17 and older.
These public use workstations are either 1 Ghz or faster Pentiums with 128Mb of RAM and 17" monitors. Workstations are also equipped with sound cards and headphone extension cables. Patrons can bring in their own headphones.
